Spiritual Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:7 — Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

God has blessed us in ways that allow us to be more effective when reaching out to our neighbors. Some of us can make a great impact by cooking a meal and bringing it to someone; some of us are much better off ordering some pizzas to be delivered! Maybe you are good at working with your hands, or at hosting gatherings in your home, or tutoring children with schoolwork.

We need to understand the ways God has gifted each one of us, so that we be most effective at reaching our neighbors. This video will cover that topic, along with the following questions/application for discussion and the resources listed below.

Questions:
1. Review the Scriptures given here in their Biblical context: Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Ephesians 4:11-13. What do you see in these verses?
2. What do you think your gifts are? In what ways could you ‘practice’ using your natural abilities to discover your spiritual gifts?
3. Have you taken a spiritual gifts inventory? If so, what did it reveal? Did it makes sense, or ‘fit’ you? How has your experience in helping others matched up with what the profile said? Was there a confirmation?
4. Does it take pressure off of you to realize that you are one part of a larger body, and you don’t need to do everything yourself?

Application for the group (for a different meeting time):
Spend the first 15 minutes of your group meeting taking a spiritual gifts test. Discuss the results as a group. Ask each other for confirmation of the results, or other gifts seen in each person. Write down the gifts represented in the group. Think of ways to use some of those gifts together to meet a need in the neighborhood.
